MIKHAIL GELFAND IN TBILISI - Medicine and Dissernet

The legendary pop-science figure and accomplished scientist, bioinformatician, Doctor of Biological Sciences, and member of the European Academy, Mikhail Gelfand, is coming to Georgia. On October 17th in Tbilisi, he will deliver his most entertaining popular science lecture, "Medicine and Dissernet." Mikhail Gelfand was one of the founders and activists of the online community "Dissernet," which focuses on identifying abuses, manipulations, and fraud in the defense of dissertations and the awarding of academic degrees. This lecture is connected to this aspect of his work. Plagiarism is bad. It’s even worse when plagiarism is accompanied by data falsification. And it's truly terrible when this happens in medical dissertations. Gelfand will share many funny and sad stories, as well as discuss the potential consequences of such falsifications.
